The Musings Project - September Recap

The month got away from me a little. Here's a September recap of what has happened at the Musings Project on Patreon
Between shooting, editing, building new features, revisiting the archive, and generally spending more time making The Musings Project than talking about it, August and September weren’t nearly as well documented here as I intended.
So, as we move into October, it’s worth looking back at what actually happened—because there was quite a bit. Septembers features are of course all still available for subscribers through the end of November, so now is the time to join!
September’s Featured Muse: Mariah
Mariah was at the center of September, with a new feature photographed at Beast Daylight Studio in Portland.

There’s something particularly fun about photographing someone who can move between different sides of herself without ever feeling like she’s playing a character. Mariah can be understated and casual one moment, polished and glamorous the next, and then completely uninhibited once the camera starts moving.
The September feature explored exactly that.

Along with the finished pictorial, subscribers got a look behind the scenes from our day at Beast and a feature nude video that brings a completely different energy to the shoot than still photographs can. The photographs freeze those little fractions of a second that I’m always chasing; the video lets you see everything happening between them—the movement, personality, and rhythm of the session itself.

And because Mariah and I have worked together before, September wasn’t limited to what we created this time around.
I also went back into the archives and brought out some earlier work with her. Seeing those photographs alongside the new Beast Daylight material gives the feature another dimension. You can see the visual history there: different shoots, different ideas, and different versions of both photographer and muse.
For anyone who wants to go considerably deeper, there are also extended Mariah features available for purchase, with much larger selections from our work together. They’re for the people who don’t just want the highlights—they want to see every detail and follow more of Mariah’s visual backstory through the years.
Back Into the Archive
September also gave me an excuse to keep digging.
One of the things I want The Musings Project to become is more than a place where new work appears and then disappears beneath whatever comes next. I have decades of photographs behind me, and some of those stories deserve another look.

We revisited work with Micah Lynn, pulling another piece of that history forward for a new audience.

There was also a trip back to Las Vegas with Violet Roxx,

Jade brought us back outside for with the kind of work where location, a mix of strobe and available light, landscape, and the model all have to find a balance rather than compete for attention.

And Clover returned with the revival of a sexy floor set that was simply too good to leave buried on a hard drive. Sometimes an archive post doesn’t need a complicated reason for coming back. Sometimes you rediscover a set, look through it again, and think: yeah, people need to see this.
Looking Forward
If August and September taught me anything, it’s that I need to get better about stopping occasionally and showing you what’s happening while it’s happening.
There’s a lot being created behind the scenes right now—new shoots, new muses, video, interviews, and a growing archive that I’m finally giving myself permission to explore again.
September was a good example of what I want The Musings Project to be: new work alongside rediscovered work, with enough room to actually get to know the women in front of the camera rather than treating each shoot as another handful of images for a feed.
Mariah gave us the new chapter.
The archive reminded us there are still plenty of older ones worth reopening.
And now, finally, we can get into October...
